Writing, Editing, Art…

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 10.53.42Writing seems to have ground to a halt in recent weeks but for good reasons. Summersdale would like The 35 Degrees to come in at around 80,000 words. Having written about half of the draft manuscript I had already written nearly 60,000! So the last few days have been spent going back and paring down what I have written. The process is easier than I imagined it to be and I’ve so far lopped off 11,000 words off the total. I’ve yet to finish the editing of degrees 15 and 16 – that should happen today – but once I have, I can crack on with finishing the book. My deadline is the start of October so I do have plenty of time. If I stick to an average of 3,000 words per chapter, by the time I finish I will have 110,000 words. A further pruning prior to submission should knock off a few more thousand and then I’ll leave it to the professionals to do their business and reduce it down to nearer 80,000. I suspect that come publication in the spring of 2017 it will be a book of around 90,000 words. Place your bets now. Just for reference, Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie came in at 110,000 and Along The Med on a Bike Called Reggie a whopping 160,000. You certainly get value for money with me.

In other book news, the excellent Andy Mitchell sent through the final version of the cover artwork for The 35 Degrees. It looks good but will never be used. I can’t wait to see what the publishers come up with. Time will tell…

(The blurb on the back of the cover is copied from Along The Med and would have been replaced had it been used.)
